2024 Spring Recital theme is….”Rhythm Of The Night”!
We are celebrating 40 years of “making a difference through the art of dance”. JPDC has been “Dancing the Night Away” since 1984. See below for the details about our recital.
SPRING RECITAL DATE - MAY 30th AND JUNE 2nd, 2024: We have the privilege of returning to Shawnee Mission West High School for our 2024 Spring Recital! This is a beautiful facility, with spaced-out areas to ensure a safe, professional, and exciting performance opportunity for your dancer! This venue has a large stage, professional lighting and sound as well as large capacity for seating. In order to have this venue, our recital weekend is May 30th & June 2nd.
During this weekend we will have a required dress rehearsal (Thursday the 30th) and the recital (Sunday, June 2nd). Specific times will be coming.
GENERAL TIMELINE: Our official schedule and timeline will be released closer to the recital. General Timeline: dress rehearsals are required and will be approximately from 4:30-9:00pm on Thursday, May 30th at Shawnee Mission West, your dancer’s class will have a specific time to be at the school. Younger dancers will have earlier times. Dancers will arrive in costume and practice on the stage! This is a CLOSED rehearsal, no one is able to watch to ensure full focus from our dancers and teachers.
The recital will be on Sunday, June 2nd, ballet rehearsal in the morning with recitals and ballet performance starting in early afternoon and wrapping up in the last afternoon. More information to come.

SPRING RECITAL PICTURES: We will be having Spring Recital pictures at JPDC studio on May 28th & 29th. We ask all dancers to please plan on coming for pictures even if you are not planning to purchase. We would like to capture the class all together as a beautiful memory of the JPDC class! We will also be running the dances 1-2 times while at the studio for pictures to have a run through before the performance. You will have the option to order an individual picture of your dancer and a group picture of your dancer’s class. We are excited to see all of our dancer’s SMILES!
Costume: Dancers will need to arrive in their first costume, correct tights, and shoes. Refer to your dancer’s costume card in their garment bag.
Stars and Minis Classes Hair: For pictures, have dancer's hair Half up/Half Down. If your dancer has a hair accessory, please wait and we will help put them in before the picture is taken. Gentleman dancers can style their hair in an appropriate way for pictures.
Level I, II, III, IV, V Hair: The hair listed on the costume card is for RECITAL DAY ONLY! Wear your hair down and styled. If your dancer has a hair accessory, please put it where it can be seen for the pictures. If you are unsure, please wait and we will help put them in before the picture is taken. Gentleman dancers can style their hair in an appropriate way for pictures.
Make Up: Dancers are welcome to wear light performance makeup for their pictures (lipstick, blush, mascara).
Changing: We will have spaces for dancers to change their costumes if they are in multiple classes. If a dancer is unable to change themselves, a parent will need to stay and help. JPDC Staff will NOT be available to help change dancers’ costumes.
Ordering Pictures: All pictures will be ordered the day their picture is taken. More information on this will be coming soon. Any and all communication about ordering, purchasing or questions about the pictures will need to be done directly with the photographer. The photographer’s information that will be sent by email.
SPRING RECITAL COSTUMES: Costumes are continuing to be passed out this week to take home. Please note that these costumes need to stay clean and pristine before the big day. Please be sure your dancer tries on their costume when it’s received and make necessary adjustments if needed before pictures (May 28th & 29th). If your dancer is in a class that did not have a costume ordered, we will communicate what your dancer needs for the spring recital.
SPRING RECITAL EVENT PACKAGE: Dancers who participate in Spring Recital will have an event/recital package fee. This event package includes a JPDC recital t-shirt for each dancer, one commemorative program per family, two single show tickets per family, (Super pass tickets to families who have dancers in both shows) a digital copy of all performances and production costs to hold the event. The event package is $120.00 per family with one student enrolled; $130.00 per family with two students enrolled, and $140.00 per family with three students enrolled and will be charged to the card on file on Monday, May 6th. Additional tickets will be available for purchase prior to the recital through your online account (tickets will not be sold in the office, online only) closer to the event. We will send out an email once this all is available through your studio account. Please make sure you check which card is on file, Studio Director had an update and you need to manually change the card on file if you use multiple cards. Email the office if you’re not sure how to do this and we are happy to help!
If you have any questions at all please reach out - note that scheduling details such as times won’t be solidified until a later time. We understand families have conflicts but this is a large puzzle trying to put all the pieces together and we are not able to release the information until closer to the event. We are so thankful for all of your dancers participating in our recital this year and being able to express themselves through dance and being able to show friends and family will be a beautiful gift for the dancers, families, friends, and us at JPDC. We truly appreciate you all being part of our JPDC family and this very special dance community!
Thursday, May 30th - Dress Rehearsal at Shawnee Mission West:
Parents will check in dancers in the auditorium, there will be dressing rooms available if dancers need to change, and parents will be able to wait there to assist dancers. The auditorium will be CLOSED to all non-performers. Please note these times are subject to change and these times are approximate.
APPROXIMATELY 4:45-6:45pm: Stars/Mini Classes Dress Rehearsals (you will have a certain time block your dancer will be needed at the school, that is being finalized, it will be sometime in this range).
APPROXIMATELY 6:30-7:30pm: Level I-II Dress Rehearsals (Once dancers have rehearsed all numbers, they are free to go).
APPROXIMATELY 7:30-8:45pm Level III and IV Dress Rehearsals (Once dancers have rehearsed all numbers, they are free to go).
APPROXIMATELY 7:45-9:15pm: Level V Dress Rehearsals (Once dancers have rehearsed all numbers, they are free to go).
Sunday, June 2nd - Spring Recital at Shawnee Mission West!
8:45am: Ballet Rehearsal Check-in (For ALL dancers who are enrolled in Ballet I, II, III, IV, V and Ballet Academy).
9:00-11:00am: Ballet Rehearsal (Dancers need to come in what they wear to ballet class with their hair and make-up done for the ballet).
12:30pm: Show 1 Recital Check in
1:00pm: Show 1 Recital
2:45pm Show 2 Recital Check in
3:00pm: Show 2
5:00pm: Wizard of OZ Ballet (ALL DANCER) Check In 4:45pm
PARENT DANCE:
We invite all parents and dancers of all ages to participate in our Parent Dance! Each Spring Recital Show will have the parent dance, where parents and dancers come on stage together during the show.
We will have 3 rehearsals for parents and dancers to learn the routine. We will be sending out videos to any family who wants to practice at home!
These rehearsals are for parents and dancers, feel free to wear any comfortable clothing. On rectial day, dancers will wear whatever costume they are in and parents can wear whatever they would like!

Program Advertisements: We have ads available in our 2024 Spring Recital Program! Each family gets one program and we will have the program available DIGITALLY so family and friends can all have access to it! The ads can be great advertising for your business that is seen by hundreds of families OR to congratulate your dancer on their performance. Please see the attached form and if you would like an ad in our program, email the form (jpdcdanceco@gmail.com) or turn in the form and payment to the office no later than 3:00pm on Monday, May 20th, 2024.
TICKET SALES:
We will have different ticket options: single show ticket (Show 1 or 2), a ticket for both shows (this is for one person to get into show 1 and 2) and a Wizard of Oz Ballet ticket. As well as the same options for children ages 3-7. If your child is 3 years of age and younger and sits in a seat, they will need to purchase a ticket. If they sit on your lap, they will not need a ticket.
Families will receive 2 single-show tickets (if the dancer is in both shows, or siblings in both shows, the family will receive two tickets to both shows). These are included in the performance event fee. Additional tickets will be available for purchase starting Wednesday, May 8th through your Studio Director account. Ticket pick-up will begin on Monday, May 13th, 2024 for all tickets in the JPDC lobby. Please note tickets are in the form of WRISTBANDS this year. You will get a colored wristband that correlates with which show(s) your dancer is in.
Blue: Show 1
Yellow: Show 2
Pink: Both Shows (entrance to show 1 and 2)
Green: Wizard Of Oz Ballet
Dancers will not need a physical ticket if they are attending the show they are not performing in. Tickets must be purchased BEFORE Wednesday, May 28th at 7:00pm. After this time, tickets must be purchased at the door for an increased price.
BALLET CLASSES ONLY:
If your dancer is in Ballet I, Ballet II, Ballet III or Ballet IV+ - the below information pertains to you! If your dancer is in the ballet class, they will be performing in our ballet production of "The Wizard Of Oz"! They will be learning their routines in class. Please reach out if you have any questions regarding the ballet production.
ALL the ballet classes (Ballet I Ballet II, Ballet III, Ballet IV+, and Ballet Academy) will be in the ballet production of "The Wizard Of Oz" on Sunday, June 2nd. There are a few out-of-class rehearsals in order to put together the different pieces of the production. Please put these on your calendar so your dancer is ready for the ballet.

Sunday, May 19th from 4:30-6:30pm: Dress Rehearsal
ALL BALLET dancers will arrive in full hair and makeup at JPDC for this rehearsal. Dancers will need to be there the entire time as JPDC staff put together the complete storyline. This is a closed rehearsal so parents will need to drop their dancers off for this rehearsal.
Performance Day! (Sunday, June 2nd at Shawnee Mission West):
ALL Ballet dancers are required to be at this morning rehearsal at Shawnee Mission West before the performance:
